In 2026, the ATL team — proudly riding as The Fat Lambs — will once again take part in the TranzAlpine Scooter Safari, an endurance ride like no other, raising vital funds for the Cancer Society.

This isn’t just a charity ride. It’s 250km of grit, cold air, long roads, and sore backs — all crossed on motorised scooters — from Christchurch to Hokitika, straight over the Southern Alps. And we’re doing it for one simple reason: no one should go through cancer alone.

What is the TranzAlpine Scooter Safari?

Scooter Safari is a coast-to-coast endurance ride that challenges riders both physically and mentally. It’s widely known as one of the coldest, longest, and most gruelling scooter rides you can do — and that’s exactly the point.

As tough as the ride is, it pales in comparison to the challenges faced by people navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Every kilometre ridden is about showing support, raising awareness, and helping fund the care services that make a real difference to families across New Zealand.

Why ATL Takes Part

As a locally owned business, giving back to our community matters to us.

Many of us have seen first-hand the impact cancer has on friends, family, clients, and colleagues. Riding in Scooter Safari is our way of standing behind those people — and helping ensure support services are there when they’re needed most.

We ride as a team, we train together, we freeze together… and we fundraise together.

Where It All Began

Scooter Safari began back in 2009, created by a group of mates in support of their friend Blair, who had been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

What started as a “bonkers” idea — 32 riders on scooters raising $14,000 — has grown into a nationally recognised event, with over 250 scooters now taking part every second year!

To date, Scooter Safari has raised over $2.2 million for the Cancer Society, helping fund cancer care, education, and life-saving research across New Zealand.

Blair’s legacy lives on through this event, and through a message that still rings true today: If something doesn’t feel right, get checked early — it could save your life.

Where Your Donation Goes

Every dollar donated through Scooter Safari goes directly to the Cancer Society Southern and supports real people in real ways, including:

• Thousands of families supported each year through cancer navigation services

• Volunteer drivers providing free transport to treatment

• Accommodation for patients and families needing to travel for care

• Funding for national cancer research and awareness programmes

This support ensures that people don’t have to face cancer alone — emotionally, practically, or financially.

Support The ATL Fat Lambs

We’re proud to be riding again in 2026, and we’d love your support.

Whether it’s a small donation or a big one, every contribution helps and pushes us closer to the event’s fundraising goal.
