Project Snapshot

Client : Turners Cars

Location : Burnside, Christchurch

Services : Commercial Electrical

Project Duration : Approximately 4 months

Working alongside Cook Brothers Construction from the earliest stages of the build, our team completed everything from power distribution and workshop services to architectural lighting, EV charging, secure vehicle compound infrastructure and 18 car park lighting poles supported by more than 1,000 metres of underground electrical infrastructure.

Designed to showcase vehicles while supporting the day-to-day operation of a busy dealership, this project demonstrates ATL’s ability to deliver complete commercial electrical solutions on time and to a high standard.

Objectives

ATL was engaged from the beginning of construction, allowing our team to coordinate underground electrical services before the foundations and car park were completed.

Design & Planning

Designed for Performance

The dealership was designed to create a premium customer experience while remaining highly functional behind the scenes. Alongside modern showroom and office spaces, the site includes a secure vehicle compound, workshop facilities, EV charging and extensive external infrastructure to support daily operations.

Inside the showroom, consultant-designed lighting, feature timber pendants and architectural LED lighting help present vehicles at their best. ATL also installed dedicated electrical supplies for a purpose-built vehicle photography studio, allowing Turners to capture professional images of vehicles on site.

Behind the scenes, the workshop includes electrical supplies for vehicle hoists, grooming equipment, motorised roller doors and wash bay facilities, while the secure vehicle compound is supported by dedicated electrical infrastructure, lighting and gate services to help protect valuable stock.

Planning Below Ground

One of the largest parts of the project was never intended to be seen. Before the car park was formed, ATL installed over 1,000 metres of underground electrical ducting throughout the site to supply 18 lighting poles, illuminated signage, EV chargers and future electrical services.

This careful planning meant the final lighting and services could be installed efficiently once the asphalt and landscaping were complete, while also providing capacity for future expansion.

Collaboration & Delivery

With numerous trades working simultaneously under a tight construction programme, communication was essential.

Working closely with Cook Brothers Construction, ATL maintained programme deadlines by coordinating labour, organising material deliveries and adapting quickly to late project changes, including additional signage requirements and long-lead lighting equipment.

The result was a smooth installation delivered on schedule without compromising quality.

Complete Electrical Package

From the main switchboard through to the final light fitting, ATL delivered the complete electrical installation across the entire development.

Premium Customer Experience

Lighting throughout the showroom and office spaces was carefully specified to enhance vehicle presentation while providing comfortable spaces for customers and staff.

Future-Ready Infrastructure

Underground electrical services were installed with future expansion in mind, allowing additional services to be added later without major excavation works.

Commercial Capability

Projects like Turners Cars demonstrate ATL’s ability to deliver medium-to-large commercial developments, coordinating closely with builders and consultants while maintaining tidy workmanship and programme certainty.

Conclusion

The completed Turners Cars Burnside dealership provides a modern, welcoming environment that reflects the Turners brand while supporting every aspect of the business—from customer experience through to workshop operations.

Although much of the electrical infrastructure remains hidden beneath the building and car park, it forms the backbone of a dealership designed to operate efficiently today while remaining ready for future growth.
